One hundred billion. That’s the number of brain cells – or neurons – that make up your baby’s brain.
Right from the very first seconds of life, your baby is taking in the world around them, and making new neural connections. These connections are like bridges between neurons, and the more connections that are made, the smarter your baby will become. Young babies can form up to 1,000 new neural connections per second. These connections are triggered when your baby’s senses are stimulated. So, when you hold your baby, kiss your baby, rock your baby and wrap your baby in a soft blanket, you are actually building their brains.
When you take your baby into a rich environment such as a sensory play group where they can experience new sights, sounds, smells and textures, you are helping these neural connections to form as best as you possibly can. This gives your baby a helping hand with motor skill development, which in turn helps with physical learning and memory retention.
Sounds amazing! What can I expect from my first session?
We run an international, English-speaking playgroup for babies under 12 months old. If English is not your first language, this is the perfect way to practice your speaking, listening and talking in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
We follow a structured program for each session, as this is really important for babies. A reliable and repeated structure helps babies to deal with new experiences without becoming distressed. We will sing to our babies, show them actions and signs, and let them experience new and exciting sights, sounds and textures.
It is an opportunity for you to focus solely on your baby, without the distractions of cooking, hoovering, dusting, washing, walking the dog…the list can sometimes seem endless. You’ll make friends with other mummies in your local area, who understand exactly what you are going through with a young baby.
You will also get some brilliant ideas for sensory stimulation that you can try at home after class, with basic items that you may already have around the house.
How much does the playgroup cost?
The playgroup is very reasonably priced. It costs 5 Euros per session. What’s more, there is always free coffee and cake just for mummies.
Sessions must be purchased in blocks of 10, and you will have 12 weeks in which to use these sessions. We do not take any Bank Holidays, Summer break or the Christmas holidays into account so you won’t lose out at all! When you begin your first session, we will give you the date when your block of sessions expires so that you can plan when you will be attending, and put them all in your diary.
Monty and Mama are a not-for-profit organisation and all revenue generated in each and every session is invested directly back into the playgroup sessions. This is mainly to provide new and exciting experiences each week for Mamas and babies, with new sensory items (for example toys, instruments, props or materials) or sensory play experiences (for example handprint and footprint painting). The remainder of revenue is paid well in advance for room hire: this ensures that we can continue to hold our weekly playgroup sessions at the Haus Der Vereine, and we can continue to keep the Monty and Mama community running smoothly. For this reason, we cannot offer refunds under and circumstances. Please see below in our Terms and Conditions for more details.
What are your Terms and Conditions?
- Playgroup sessions must be purchased in blocks of 10. We do not offer a pay-as-you-go basis for our sessions.
- Payment must be made by cash or bank transfer by the start of your second session. If you require a receipt, please ensure that you request one from Abbey (playgroup owner) whilst at a playgroup session.
- Unfortunately, due to the nature of our playgroup, we are not able to offer refunds under any circumstances.
- If you can no longer attend playgroup sessions due to your personal circumstances but you have some remaining, you may transfer these to another Mama but ONLY by prior agreement with Abbey.
- Monty and Mama reserves the exclusive right to make changes to the time and day of the playgroup sessions. Where this is necessary, at least 6 weeks’ notice will be given to Mamas.
- If your baby turns one year old whilst you have sessions remaining, you may continue to attend sessions by prior agreement with Abbey.
